Since 2013, the company has jumped 40 positions in the absolute ranking, having reached its best result ever this year.

The 2016 ranking includes companies from 21 countries which, on October 1st 2015, had stock market valuations of more than 2 billion dollars, with Galp Energia being the only Portuguese company represented.

The qualifying companies are scored on a list of 12 key performance indicators that range from energy and water use, to employee compensation and corporate tax strategy. Because the indicators are quantitative and clearly-defined, the results of the Global 100 are objective and replicable.

The Global 100 follows a rules-based construction methodology and is more akin to a financial index than many other “sustainability” indices. It is maintained by Corporate Knights Capital.

The inclusion of Galp Energia in this ranking recognises the integration of best sustainability practices in a coherent way, in all aspects of the company's life. This also explains the inclusion of Galp Energia in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, the FTSE4Good Index, and the CDP - Driving Sustainable Economies, other major global references in corporate sustainability.
