First oil production starts at Tômbua-Lândana field in Angola

The contractor group of Block 14 in Angola, comprised by Chevron, Sonangol, Eni, Total and Galp Energia, announced today the beginning of production at the Tômbua-Lândana field.

The contractor group of Block 14 in Angola, comprised by Chevron, Sonangol, Eni, Total and Galp Energia, announced today the beginning of production at the Tômbua-Lândana field, a project located around 80 kilometres offshore Angola and in a water depth of 366 metres. The development of this project represents an investment of $3.8 billion for the contractor group.

Peak production of 100,000 barrels of crude oil per day is expected to be reached in 2011 and recoverable resources are estimated at 350 million barrels.

This project comprises 46 wells, a 474 metres compliant piled tower and one subsea centre to access the Tômbua-Lândana field. The project is designed for no discharge of produced water and no routine gas flaring.

The natural gas associated with crude oil production activities will be sent to the Angolan Liquefied Natural Gas project, which is being constructed in Soyo, Angola.

Galp Energia produces oil at Block 14 since December 1999 and in 2008 associated net entitlement production reached an average of 10 thousand barrels per day.

This announcement represents another positive contribution to the increase of Galp Energia’s production.

Block 14 has declared five development areas to date: Kuito, Benguela-Belize-Lobito-Tomboco, Tômbua-Lândana, Negage and Gabela. Galp Energia holds 9% of Block 14, where Chevron is the operator with a stake of 31%, being the contractor group also comprised by Sonangol, Total and Eni with a stake of 20% each.

As regards offshore exploration in Angola, Galp Energia is also present in Block 33, Block 32, Block 14K-A-IMI and in an offshore gas exploration & production project (Sonagás).
