Galp Retail Lab inaugurated at Instituto Superior Técnico (Taguspark, Oeiras)

Instituto Superior Técnico and Galp inaugurated the Galp Retail Lab at Técnico’s Oeiras campus, a hands-on environment to test and validate customer-journey technologies for energy retail and service stations.

Galp inaugurated the Galp Retail Lab at Instituto Superior Técnico’s Oeiras Campus (Taguspark), reinforcing a model where academia and industry co-create solutions with direct market applicability. The lab is designed as a practical experimentation environment: it digitally replicates service-station realities so teams can test technology and software before deployment, improving reliability and customer experience.

The initiative reflects a broader strategic goal of strengthening Portugal’s scientific and innovation system by creating closer, continuous collaboration between universities and companies. By involving students, researchers, and Galp technical teams, the lab supports multidisciplinary work across areas such as telecom, electronics, computer science, and industrial management - turning learning into applied development and talent engagement into real solution building.

At launch, João Diogo Marques da Silva highlighted the ambition to set a new service standard, while Rogério Colaço emphasized knowledge transfer and talent connection as central outcomes. The lab’s focus includes key customer touchpoints—such as payment terminals and EV chargers - validated through manual and automated testing to ensure better journeys for both B2C and B2B contexts.
