PowerUp: Advancing Megawatt Charging for Heavy-Duty Mobility

Galp, together with i-Charging, INESC-TEC, and Mizurutech, launches the PowerUp project under COMPETE2030 to deploy Megawatt Charging Systems, enabling ultra-high power charging for heavy-duty vehicles.

The PowerUp project, submitted by Galp and partners i-Charging, INESC-TEC, and Mizurutech under the COMPETE2030 call (Portugal 2030), was approved in Phase 1 with a score of 4.36/5. The initiative focuses on deploying Megawatt Charging Systems (MCS), a new protocol enabling ultra-high charging power critical to decarbonizing heavy-duty vehicles.

Galp will implement the system at one of its service stations, integrating Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and solar PV. By combining renewable energy with cutting-edge charging infrastructure, PowerUp exemplifies how advanced technology and strategic partnerships can accelerate the transition to sustainable mobility for heavy-duty transport.
