Fundação Galp contribui para a qualidade de ensino | Galp Moçambique

This year, the Galp Foundation and Helpo once again offered various school supplies to students in the 9th class of Natoa Secondary School, in the Province of Nampula, as part of the official opening of the 2020 academic year, thus continuing to promote the improvement of the quality of teaching conditions.

This donation took place at a ceremony attended by students, school management, community leaders, and other guests.

Galp thus reaffirms its commitment to support the development of the communities where it operates, in line with the sustainable development goals. In this case, the action promotes access to quality education, which is a central axis in Galp’s Social Responsibility strategy and its Foundation, with a particular impact on the future and well-being of children and, in the long term, of the entire society.

In Mozambique, starting last year, Galp marked the beginning of this three-year journey in partnership with the NGO for Development Helpo, through the “Educate for the Future” Project, which has already directly benefited 2,954 students at seven schools in Nampula (Natoa Complete Primary School); adjoining rooms of Namaita Secondary School; São João Batista do Marrere Multipurpose School; Micolene School; Ilocone School; Mahunha School; and Munimaca School) and two in Cabo Delgado (Januário Pedro Secondary School and Chinda Complete Primary School).

During the three-year term of the Project, the Natoa school receives 50 collections of textbooks for secondary education each year, for the enjoyment of teachers and students, and support in the preparation and distribution of school snacks (Ephawila Project), twice a week.

Last year, in the same school community, 156 secondary school students (8th grade) received the Galp Foundation merit scholarships for the first time. The award of merit scholarships to students corresponds to support the payment of tuition fees, school supplies, textbooks, bicycles, and other important resources to ensure better school performance.

It should also be noted that 10 health education sessions will be organized annually, aimed at guardians and parents of school students, addressing topics such as the importance of healthy eating and snacks, how to prepare enriched porridges to avoid problems related to malnutrition, how to treat intestinal parasites, and related topics.
