Galp Foundation and the Red Cross provide seeds and essential goods to victims of Cyclone Idai | Galp Moçambique

The Galp Foundation and the Mozambique Red Cross (CVM) delivered various necessary materials to communities in the Province of Tete, Mutarara District, a region heavily hit by floods and Cyclone Idaí in April, where 753 families and 3765 people were affected. The joint donation took place on 20 August and was attended by hundreds of people from that community.

In all, 1000 watering cans, 1000 mats, 1000 agricultural seed kits (a mix of packages of okra, onion, lettuce, tomato, etc.) and 166 kitchen kits were delivered to meet the needs of about 1000 families, which would allow that community to recover its garbage destroyed by the floods.

This is the latest donation of this humanitarian aid operation from the Galp Foundation, in partnership with the CVM, which amounted to around EUR 150,000 to support relief operations for victims hit by Cicline Idaí in the provinces of Sofala and Tete.

In parallel, Galp mobilized its employees in the various geographies where the company is present in the world to collect goods identified by the Red Cross that were sent to Mozambique.

More recently, the company signed a partnership agreement with the Fund to Support Populations Affected by the Passage of Cyclones Idai and Kenneth in Mozambique. The agreement was signed in Lisbon, at Camões — Institute of Cooperation and Language, together with the other entities that contribute financially to the Fund.

The Mozambique Recovery and Reconstruction Support Fund, announced by the Prime Minister of Portugal, António Costa, at the IV Portugal-Mozambique Summit held this month during the official visit of the President of the Republic, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, is co-financed by the Portuguese State Budget and by donations from public and private entities and aims to support the recovery and reconstruction of regions affected by cyclones. Over the next 3 years, the Fund will finance NGO projects in these areas in the fields of health, education, food safety, among others. The Funding Line for Non-Governmental Organizations for Development projects under this Fund was also presented during the ceremony.
