Energy efficiency in our operations

Galp is committed to transitioning to more sustainable energies through modernisation and implementation of energy efficiency measures.

In the various sectors where we operate, we have developed measures aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and primary energy consumption, such as:

  • Replacing oil fuel by natural gas in refineries;
  • Launching new fuel products (Evologic), with the latest generation, more efficient additives, with less GHG generation;
  • Setting photovoltaic solar panels for electric microgeneration at the filling stations, through the use of renewable energy sources;
  • Exporting natural gas produced in the E&P activity for sale;
  • Separating and injecting CO2 from the natural gas produced in the E&P business, thus reducing the operations’ ecological footprint and optimising the maintenance of reservoir pressure;
  • Developing new business models that are aimed at energy efficiency and at the sale of compressed natural gas (CNG) in special sales points integrated in the European network or of LNG for ships.

By renewing the technologies used in our activities and operations, we have also succeeded in improving our energy efficiency. In 2017, the activity GHG intensity was 0.2523 t CO2e /MWh, taking into account Galp's direct emissions normalised as function of the total energy consumption.
